Different from the City Wall Book Club hidden in the belly of the City Wall, it is a pseudo-classic high-profile building standing on the gate; apart from especially attractive view outside of the Study, a cone drum of Qing Dynasty is set up within in and tourists can read and meditate here and know the history of Nanjing.
Incomplete Shicheng Gate relics lies still on Hanzhong Gate Square, and Shicheng Gate has many alternative names, such as Hanxi Gate or Hanxi Gate and now it hides in a corner of the prosperous west of the city; seen from a round of barbican, it seems that tourists can see the prosperous scene of West Gate of Nanjing. Proceeding westward, tourists will see the oldest city wall in Nanjing-Stone City. The history of Stone City may date back to the Kingdom of Wu and the alternative name of Nanjing “Stone City” originates from it. Stone City is made from natural rocks chiseled, its middle part with some blocks of purple red sandstone-conglomerates like the face of a monster due to its irregularity for scouring of Yangtze River water in ancient time, together with a pond of clean water to form an unique landscape, which is commonly known as “Grimace Looks into Mirror”.
City Wall in Section from Dinghuai Gate to Lion Mountain lies in the northernmost City Wall, its trend like a raised sharp corner. The City Wall in this Section is closed to the turning of Yangtze River, encompassing Lion Mountain, relying on mountain and water, and therefore it is an important barrier against the North Boundary. Today, Xiaotaoyuan and Xiuqiu Park built up along the moat are picturesque and full of tourists each spring, showing the scene of “I saw her face amid peachblossoms so great”. Yuejiang Tower built up according to the Narrative Prose of Yuejiang Tower and Jinghai Temple where the Treaty of Nanjing was signed at the foot of City Wall silently give an account of the rise and fall, the honor and disgrace of history.
