The City Wall in this Section is about 6 kilometers in total length, provided with six city wall climbing entrances, two permanent exhibition halls and two cultural supporting facilities: Taicheng Study (Jiefang Gate) and Chuangying Book Club (Dashugen).
Section from Shen’ce Gate to Taiping Gate includes Shen’ce Gate, Xuanwu Gate and Jiefang Gate. Shen’ce Gate is the most well-preserved city gate among thirteen gates within the city in the Ming Dynasty; with gate tower of Qing Dynasty and woody gate wrapped with iron sheet still preserved, and design of external barbican and unique appearance. Xuanwu Gate was built up at the end of Qing Dynasty, located in the west of Xuanwu Lake-“Jinling Bright Pearl”, one of the famous lakes in Jiangnan Area. The City Wall winds its way southwest along Xuanqu Lake-“Jinling Bright Pearl”, fully revealing the characteristics of Nanjing City Wall built in right place and right time, near the mountain and by the river.
“Taicheng” is famous for the beautiful line “The most ruthless is city willow” written by Liu Zhuang. Beauty of the nature and humanity converges here, with shimmering Xuanwu Lake, moderate and elegant Sanzang Tower on Jiuhuashan, Solemn and magnificent Purple Mountain, Buddhist sound lingering Jiming Temple, high-rising modern buildings and time and space intertwining and crushing, bursting out the beauty of “humaneness”.
Beautiful scenery of landscape, city and forest seen from the City Wall attracts a constant swirl of tourists; special city wall bricks, fortification technology shown in the exhibition halls make tourists heartfeltly admire the inventive mind and exquisite craftsmanship of ancient working people. Taicheng Study adjacent to Xuanwu Lake is provided within the City Wall, with antique flavor, and when tourists step into it, you look up and will see antique lantern, listen to classical music and smell the fragrance of ink and book from Qingxin Teahouse; if tourists come here in spring, cherry blossom along Xuanwu Lake flies out of the window and Chinese zither and a bottle of Mei flower even more give off the atmosphere of spring. Chuangying Book Club above Xuanwu Lake Tunnel Entrance adjacent to Nanjing City Wall is also called International Youth Urban Study, permeated with literary atmosphere and energy, provided with some original cultural innovation products to create relaxing and tranquil cultural atmosphere for citizens.
